Hoping to hear your thoughts and opinions and get some advice on some troubles we are having with our Lab.
Our almost 11 month old Lab puppy has decided that she loves escaping! This has became a new habit in the last month. We live on an acre, we have chicken wire around the yard, however she chews and digs and always finds her way out, we have tried to fix all the escape routes also with help from out neighbour, however because the yard is so big she always find a new way.
We had one neighbour advise us that pepper had jumped all over their daughter whilst she was waiting for the school bus, the little girl is petrified of dogs and ran to her mum crying and her clothes were all muddy and wet from peppers paws. That afternoon when coming home from work we had a complaint from the neighbour across the road that Pepper had gotten into their yard and jumped on their little boy who knocked his head and has a large egg on his head. The next door neighbour who has been really good with the whole situation advised us that another woman in the estate was unhappy as Pepper had ran through her house as she had left the front door open.
This morning we had a call from our neighbours who live behind (who also are mum and dad of the little girl who was jumped on whilst waiting for the bus) Pepper has stunned or killed (they are not sure yet) one of their chooks last night!
We have tried fixing the area numerous times, we have had to resort to tying her up to the tree with a really long lead so that she can still run around and reach shelter and also have her water, but I still feel so cruel, she is a puppy she deserves to be running around and it is not her fault that our fence is now not adequate enough to keep her in.. I just think to myself someone else would give her a better life then me
I understand she is young and this is what puppies do, but I am not sure how I can fix the problem (instead of tying her up) as I feel this is not fair on her.
We walk her everyday and she has tons of toys and gets lots of attention each and every day, I thought maybe she is bored but we are always with her doing something.
Any ideas, advice or any opinions on the whole 'tying her up' would be appreciated.
my family more see her as a 'dog' and she'll be right, where as i want the best for her and for her to be happy and living the best puppy life possible.
Thanks in advance
