Nev, that post above was excellent mate !!
Just came in to see how Pohm went, and very happy to hear the op went well.

Yay Pohm!!! Very good news, I hope she bounces back quickly
Cone of shame on to prevent her worrying the stitches. Shave one leg, and half the other to put fentynl patch on her.
Stitches come out in 14 days. But no exercise for 6 weeks. then slow walks on leash. < is that the part you would start her swmming?
Cant eat with the cone of shame. So have to work out how to get it off.
She's not too happy. Feeling sorry for herself. As are we.
She looks so... butchered.
But she's home, and bernie is led next to her crate, cleaning the bits he can reach through crate.
Brian is just peeved that his 'nice new bed' is not for him, after all!
Obviously you need to take your vets advice but I would think that if she's allowed to walk on leash then swimming where it's non-weight bearing would be quite ok ... again, you can only take your vets advice IMO
Well, that's 6 wks away. Im already struggling 24hrs in lol
she does not like the cone of shame, does not like being in the crate with the cone of shame
Just taken her for a wee in morning, she coupied started to pee, but clearly too painful so quit.
unable to eat with collar on, so had to be hand fed.
medication time now. Gee, this is gonna be a long road to recovery.
Oh poor Pohm, it's awful to see them suffering. At least she's home with her family to love her and look after her, hopefully the worst of it will be over soon
If she can't eat with the cone, maybe it's a bit too long? You could cut it down a bit as long as you make sure she can't reach her stitches?
Or you could get a soft cone from the pet shop. But research first if they will prevent gnawing stitched. I've only used them to prevent my cat from scratching her neck. The Kong inflatable ones are useless, don't get that.
So glad to hear all the worst of it is over for Pohm and she is on the (long) road to recovery. Thinking of the poor little poppet with the cone of shame, you certainly do have your work cut out for you Bernie. I take my hat of to you
