Hello all, long time no visit. Life has been crazy these past few weeks!
I just wanted to drop by and share Millie's success in training. As you may recall, we were given her by a family who had done zero training and couldn't keep her anymore at age 3. Training was really tough as she was overweight, very keen on pulling on lead, not food motivated and generally not interested in the concept of training.
Well, she has come a LONG way! We've cut down her food to the amount she should be getting fed for her size and she's lost 3-4kgs. That change alone has meant that she is now interested in any treat we offer so it's no longer hell trying to find something to interest her at training. The trainers really backed off and allowed me to work with her without the negative feedback. She is on a stretchy harness now which combined with my training commands has almost entirely stopped her from pulling. She heels nicely now, even around obstacles. At the start of training I could not get her to sit by my side to save my life, now she'll sit there for long stretches. It's very clear that she's just keen to learn and to please me at training which I am just thrilled about.
When I got her I was scared that I would never be able to walk her or have any control whatsoever, now she's even better behaved than Loki (who to be fair is still a puppy and is testing his training boundaries right now). We got a new kitten last weekend and she has been just perfect with him as well as our other cat Lucy.
So there you have it, I am definitely going to be a rescue doggy advocate for life!
