what do you guys make of the scars?
He has skin irritation/rash. Particularly on his butt where it touches the ground. Small spekles of blood just under skin, but skin not broken yet.
What would you do?
Should i wait bath him, or get it over n done with. 50 odd kg of no thanks, is tricky. I generally hose mine. Ive noticed brian shy away when i filled up the paddling pool for them. ?
He's been capstar'd today.
vets saturday for roadworthy, vaccinations.
I'll give you hints - Bordeauxs cannot take cheap, wheat filled food, its the food that made his skin that way. Mine was the same. Take him of all wheat filled rubbish, give him something decent like RC and chicken frames. Malaseb his skin once a week, dry him very thoroughly then betadine cream from the pharmacy to dry up the bad skin, he'll be fine in no time. You can dab on the malaseb as a rinse then dab it off in tepid not cold/hot water. It wont be expensive, the vets will put him on a buttload of antibiotics for really not great reason. He's not the first bordeaux with bad skin due to diet it's a breed trait in a lot of lines. Also put some Advocate on him for at least 3 months that can help the skin too.
Great pictures, scars look to me like left overs from skin irritations. Maybe better to wait a couple of days for the bath to let him settle in a bit, specially if he may be scared of the hose/water.
There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.
Yep those scars look to me like skin infection.
Like Nehkbet said get some Malaseb...pet stores sell it cheaper than vets. One thing my vet said (he has 2 boxers with bad skin) is to leave the Malaseb on for 10 minutes before washing it off. Mojos skin started clearing up in a few days. I dabbed betadin aswell before bed.
He's freaking georgous !!! could do with a little bit of weight on them ribs but its not to bad. Suss out the satan balls.
Even if he was a breeder/fighter....he's with you now and life can only get better !!! Good luck. I'm jealous !!
He's only young I wouldnt be feeding him satin balls. If he hasnt been desexed leave him, give him decent fresh protein food and let him grow slowly. I wouldn't make his body fat content any higher then it already is.
I use a neutered down maintenance satin ball recipe for bernie and pohm. But we can do raw also.
He's not having any more of the food i was given, and tonight he's got raw. Has allready had 3 feeds of bone.
I notice he reacts on thresholds. Spooks.
Bounces back easy enough, but spooks none the less.
He and the other dogs have been playing around all day, they are all very tired tonight.
He's met my son. And worked out that's more cuddles!
He's been in the lake up to his belly. Whilst the other 2 swam.
He's rather reactive to the ducks/geese, which in turn is making them reactive, so we spent 20 mins, around the ducks, just sniffing about on the edge, till he was not noticing the ducks, then came away. He's loving the walks.
Ive been confident enough to let them off leash together.
Now, Brian is the only dog trailing that leash dragging on the floor.
I trust the other 2.
But im not seeing any issues so far.
He'll meet my son's pups once he's vaccinated.
Well, i did have my vet appnt at 4.30, but got a call to say they'd double booked, other dog is sick, mine's relatively healthy, come in sat 9am. So we're almost there.
But i was eager to try my luck bathing him, due to the smell to be honest.
I used warm water, and a flannel, and that dog let me rub him wet, malaseb shampoo and rinse him with more buckets of warm water. then applied betadine to all open skin areas.
Ive examined him from that, and found:
impacted anal glands
feacal burning on skin around unclean anus
his toe nails need doing, he's foot shy
yeast infection in 2 folds on his face
The malaseb and betadine will hold him, if not added to change now over to our diet, im hoping for great results.
He'll get some cream for his piles. He wont be constipated any longer, so the piles should heal with cream.
I'll let you know how he goes. They have been together, off leash. In house, outside under supervision, outside under subversive supervision still no issues. All having a ball.
He gets to meet the pups Sherlock and Harlequin, once he's been vaccinated and given all clear.
I find this fascinating, like a journal of recovery for the pup. Please keep posting, it is great!
Poor Brian, he must have been so uncomfortable.
Fantastic that he's fitting in well with your two.
Do keep us informed of his progress.
