I'm posting this thread because I feel awful and wanted to get others thoughts and opinions!
I have 3 dogs:
Heeler Cross Kelpie that's female about 5yrs (Lucy)
Purebred English Staffy that's male about 4yrs (Dex)
Mini Foxy that's male and he's 8yrs (Turbo)
The Heeler is a rescue dog and I have always had issues with her aggression towards other dogs, in particular white fluffy dogs. She is the dominate one out of the 3 dogs and quite often snaps and growls at the other 2 dogs to keep them in line but she has never attacked my other 2 dogs or any other dogs that regularly come to my house. She has never ever shown any aggression toward people and is very pleasant.
The problem seems to be with dogs she has never met before and even then there are some dogs that she see's on our walks regularly and she still goes nuts when we walk past them. She has become so out of control over the past few months that I don't like walking her because I know there will be an incident - wether it's her getting out of her harness and running up to a fence barking at other dogs or her causing a scene when she see's another dog.
Anyway today while we were walking I noticed a lady walking her dog which was a shih tzu or maltese so I stared to walk Lucy away so we could cross the road to avoid her going crazy when she saw the fluffy dog. As I went to cross the road she pulled so hard on the lead it friction burned my hand and I lost grip and she tore straight at the other dog and got it by the neck and shook it.
It seemed like it went on forever because I was in shock but she probably only shook it for maybe 5 - 10 seconds. The dog was crying and yelping but it didn't appear to be injured as there was no blood but I understand that sometimes shaking can cause internal bleeding.
I felt absolutely awful and felt so sorry for the dog that Lucy attacked. The dogs owner was in shock and stood cradling her dog screaming. I tired to make sure her and the dog were okay but she couldn't talk and just stood screaming. I wanted to give her my details so if she decided to take the dog to the vet I could pay etc but it was pointless as she continually screamed then told me to go away.
I think that the best thing for me to do would be to take Lucy to get behavioural therapy and get a muzzle. Even though I know the other owner has every right to make a report it's stressing me out. Can a report be made if she doesn't know who I am or where I live etc?
Can anyone recommend good dog behaviorists is Victoria? Sorry for the long winded thread - I'm just stressed out and can't stop thinking about it
