Over Excited At Times!
I was wondering if anyone had some tips on how to "less excite"a dog when about to go out for a walk?
The dog in question if it has any inclination that he is about to go for his walk goes nuts!
Weather he is inside at the time or outside, he starts running uncontrollably around, makes whining noises, runs at you to put his collar on, sits on command for approx 5 seconds (if lucky) and then is off again. Utterly over excited and ridiculous behaviour.
I cant say the word walk even in a general conversation (even if we aren't going for a walk) let alone when we are!
Let him hear his collar or lead or even replenishing the poo bags or getting the bag we normally take with us before the behaviour starts.
I have tried so many things, but to no avail.
Once out the front door and with in a few minutes, normality sets in and we are fine.
Except that he seems to know where every other dog in the neighborhood lives, starts crying/howling a house before hand and then stops again about the next house past?
Even one of the other dogs pushes him when he does this as if to say, "shut up" that is not what you should be doing!
He apart from these annoying traits is well mannered, well socialised and a obedient happy pooch, that fits well in our family since we have had him.
He took approx 9 months for him to start to settle into us when we 1st got him, and yes it had taken a while for him to trust us and his surrounds, but we have had him 3 yrs now and for love or money I cannot get this burst of complete uncontrollable behaviour out of him?
