This is a dilema i am facing.
A year ago, 2 pups came into the family. My son's pup, and my brother in law's pup. My son's pup is now a fully trained pet. My BIL's dog has had issues, that sadly are at PTS stage with BIL.
Firstly, i met this so called pedigree papered SBT 8 week old pup, and it was very tiny. Extremely fearful, would not stop shaking in our presence, no curiosity. My BIL is a ignorant B, who believes that SBT's dont need: a walk ever, care arrangements when they go away for a weekend. I have had to go around and feed/water dogs secretly. But dont get me started.
Anyhow, the pup has grown, been dragged around by 2 girls under 10. The pup jumps, and bites and recently has begun attacking people.
Because of this jumping and biting, they decided to enclose it in a tiny runway at the back of the house. The pup who is not socialised, gets stuck in yard and not allowed in and no attempt to train it.
It has attacked my father in law, who feeling sorry for abandoned pup whilst BIL away for w/e, went around and tried to feed it. It went for him. He is very distraught that he couldn't get the dog off, and had to hit it with a stick to get it to stop. No punctured skin, as had wellie boots on and jeans tucked in.
His hands are scratched badly.
Now BIL has addressed this, by telling father in law, that the dog doesn't deserve walking and not to come around for it anymore.
a) how many dogs can you own domestically in melbourne? I have 2 allready
b) this pup has never been trained, ever. Is smart intelligent and nervous, and has probably had 6 walks on leash, in her entire first year of life. Do you think i could take it, retrain, rehome it? I don't want it going to a pound.
c) how does it go adding a 2nd bitch into homes.
I am set up that i can contain the pup away from other dogs. Though, im not sure about a SBT, im sure ive read a lot about escapologist ones on here?
I am reporting my BIL to authorities tomorrow for abandoning the pup and the old female dog over w/e without adequate care. And its not the first time.
The pup was a bad mistake. Their older gal is submissive, gorgeous nature, SBT. Who is 10yrs of age. And 'survived' in what none of us would consider adequate care.
The BIL is now upset that due to being confined, the SBT has eaten all the electrics from the caravan also stored in the enclosure. (annoying i know, but revenge was sweet i hope!).
He wants to PTS this untrained, puppy of 1yr of age.
I think i can help. But would need to do so legally, ie. how many dogs can a pet owner own?
Ive never owned a SBT, but i know many. And none of them were what id call 'easy' pups. They've needed clear leadership and being in the thick of things, not shut outside.
Messy, RSPCA cases in my own bloody family. I ask you?
