Proud of my boy the other day.
Took him into the clinic after I finished work. Still had a few dogs I'd groomed that were waiting to go home, they were all in cages. A SWF, a Schnauzer and a Cocker Spaniel. Brought Koda into the grooming room (I actually had no treats on me at the time) we went straight past the cages without a single fuss
I stopped him about 1.5 meters from the cages just so I could quickly run the brush over him before I took him to the park to take photos of him. All three of the other dogs started barking and growling like crazy, but Kodi just sat there watching me. He whined a couple of times and glanced at them, but he always came back to me Such a good boy. He got lots of praise and as soon as I found some treats he got a jackpot while being good with the other dogs
I've sometimes considered taking him into work with me when I know there won't be too many huge dogs around, just to help desensitise him to dogs barking and just being around dogs in a safe environment. We've definitely made progress with that, A year ago if we were out walking and he heard a dog barking somewhere he would get upset and start reacting, now he just ignores barking dogs 99% of the time
Still lots of work to do though. We had a situation with an off leash labrador a couple of weeks ago. Thank goodness Koda was muzzled. The owner was far away and had absolutely no control of her dog... it even followed us across a busy road despite the owners calls!! That situation did upset Koda because the dog was really getting in his personal space but I think we handled it okay. The owner of the Lab should have known better, she could read Koda's "give me space" vest which seemed to be the only reason she started to attempt to call her dog away... But even after the incident, she didn't put the dog on a lead, which really annoyed me!! Especially when we bumped into her again 30 mins later and found ourselves in the exact same situation again
(No, he's not off leash, I just photoshopped it out, lol)
Thats some progress there MDD. Well done Koda, lots more treats for being focused.
I love the bit where poodle gets a little jumpy, and koda does notice, but your so fast at interupting the response, the moment passes well handled.
Koda is so gorgeous to look at. Fantastic merleness if that's a word even.
