Hi I am a dog walker.
I like to take my dogs to off lead dog parks to be social.
I notice that many of them are built on land that no one else wants (deep rubbish tips etc) but I have also found recently the councils making ridiculous rules that severely affect the off lead park usages.
One park used to be an off lead dog haven. Then they restricted it so that you could not walk dogs Monday to Friday, between 8-10 am and 3-5 pm. In theory this is because small children wanted to use the park as a short cut to get to school. NOW they have the same hours on weekends!?! NO valid reason - all it does is stop the people who give their dog one or two walks on the weekend (ie don't or cant walk them during the week) .
Another parks forbids dogs in the specific off lead dog park area on weekends in total. For all the summer months.
My main concern about this trend is that it is just accepted. and will increase. Dogs rarely get walked enough and this will not encourage further walking. many people are lazy and wont drive an extra ten minutes if they cant go off lead at their local park. It is a shame that our councils no longer see any benefits in dogs and are just going the safety (insurance premium wise) options.
Do any of you find a similar thing happening in your area?
