I am so livid... I keep trying to read other things,do other things but I keep going back to it and get riled up all over again.
The OH had taken Tonka on his usual morning walk and the return of the walk is coming back up our road , past a few of his fans , stops for a talk with one special lady and then a few more houses and home ( this had taken months to achieve because of Tonks reaction problems).
Not this time.
He'd just passed the corner house and was heading up the path ( about 8 houses to home) and an old Border Collie raced across the road and was intent on eating Tonka. The OH was trying to keep the Collie away from him and Tonk but during the circling the Collie managed to slip in and tried to latch on to Tonks nose but slipped off ( leaving sliding teeth scratches across his nose) . Then Tonk reacted and grabbed a hold of the Collie just behind his jaw/ear area , he had hold only on a roll of fur/scruff but he wasn't letting go,especially as the Collie was still able to twist around enough to try biting him across the head leaving Tonk with bleeding scratches across the top of his head.
Ok so Tonk is not letting go and suddenly an old lady in a dressing gown appeared and a bloke and his wife walking down the path had stopped,an old bloke from the house we were in front of....we had quite the little party. I had heard the OH shouting and had raced down the path to them ( in my jammies) He'd asked the crowd for a stick of any sort ( he didnt have a BS on him) and was handed this guys walking stick, they'd all thought he was going to belt Tonk with it but he was trying to use it to break his grip, but it was too thick....amongst all the yelling and rubbish from the onlookers ( punch him in the eye was one from the old woman in the dressing gown) I've yelled for water (I know how to get him to let go with it) and the old bloke pulled what he could of his hose out of his front yard and started hosing them ( there wasnt much water pressure but it would do) , I've yelled ( trust me-I had to yell) to aim it up Tonks nose. He did and Tonk immediately let go and was pulled back out of the way and towards home . The Collie got up still snarling ( unhurt) and the old bloke grabbed him and took him to his home - the house on the corner .
Then all we got was " He goes for his walk every day,he doesnt do anything wrong" My response was less than friendly as I told her very clearly that the bloody dog should of been on leash !! It had attacked my dog which was on lead ( well harness actually) !! and still she was going on about how oh but the old boy always took his walk and should be able to without being hurt. Uh lady .....and when I repeated that the god damned bloody dog should of been on lead and it had attacked my dog , I reckon the rest of town would of heard me .
Then suddenly the guy with the walking stick ( he was about 40 I spose) was on about how it was 'this breed' , 'these staffies' ,' he should be muzzled' ...yes well lets just say I wasnt up to being very diplomatic and try to educate this idiot , the OH had grabbed me buy the shoulders as I was turning around with intent and suddenly the lady I spoke of earlier who loves Tonk , her and her daughter were saying he's not worth it , we know better and thats what matters .Tonk at this stage was just being Tonk, said hello to the lady, said hi to her daughter ( who said you're right mum he's a darling)
But I am still seething...I have put so so much work into Tonka so that he can at least go for walks around town etc....all that work unraveled because of a wandering dog off lead that attacked him. The owner lives on the corner and we didn't see him at all and still havn't .The dog is allowed to 'take his walk' every ruddy day!!
Sorry....just got carried away,I had to get it out to other dog owners I guess.
Thanks for the vent guys
And we now jokingly call him Rocky , got beaten up by an old Border Collie
Especially within earshot of others
