Ok, this one is a real doozy. Recently picked up a rescue from the pound, she is a chihuahua/terrier cross. She was much older than we originally thought, and had completely rotten teeth. Had been left with extremely painful mouth and only given dry biscuits in the pound, so weight had dropped to 2.7 kilos (with aheavy chain lead on) by he time we got to her. She also has mammary lumps - yeah I know what you are going to say and no shes never been spayed : (
Anyway we fed her up for 2 weeks managed to get her up to 3 kilos and by the way she is approx 10-12 years old!!! Vet took out all rotten teeth she only has 4 left!! But her appetite is excellent.
Anyway we need to operate on her to get lumps off and out, one is quite large, but when took her to vets she said her heart rate was too low, for her to have surgery today and to bring her back over next couple of days to listen to heart at least twice more so can see if it improves.
When she had her anasthetic 2 weeks ago she recovered extremely well though, and she is a very energetic dog and very lively, however her blood tests before having teeth out said she was a bit anaemic, Ive heard anemia can cause low heart rate? Although I will of course follow my vets advice, any ideas anyone if there is anything we can do to help her heart rate??
