So i'm not a breeder but being the Breeders Community I figured this would be the best place to ask.
How does one become a breeder? Where does it change from being a backyard breeder to being a registered breeder (i'm not a backyard breeder so just thought i'd mention that).
I love beagles, we have owned 1 beagle and are about to get another, i'd to in future be a breeder, but i'm really not sure where to begin. At the moment we just have beagles because we love them and enjoy them as pets, but i'd love to take it that step further, not immediatly but i'd love to work towards it. I want to breed good pups, I don't want to just breed for the sake of breeding and the experience.
Do all breeders have to be show dog types?
I have researched Beagle Breeders here in W.A and alot of them seem to go back for 30-40 years, so where did they start? Do you stary with a pup who is tested for all genetic problems, and then breed it with a pup who has also been tested and is clear? Do you breed from 2 different registered breeds?
Sorry if this sounds so clueless, like I said early days for me and i'm just trying to find some information.
Also if somebody had notes on costs etc.. that would be wonderful too.
