A week or more ago we discovered an odd red inflamed lump on my dog's leg. We originally thought it was just a grass seed embedded in her skin, but it has since grown into a big, angry red lump a bit more than 1cm in diameter. Earlier today, it started bleeding. Whether she bit it, scratched it on something or if it just popped, I'm not sure, but it hasn't changed in shape. She also doesn't seem to feel any pain from it, either.
We took Lucky to the vet today, and the vet is unsure about what it is. Seeing it was just in the skin, she's decided to remove it before it gets worse. Tomorrow Lucky is having it removed for good, and it's being sent away to be analyzed to find out exactly what it is. I'm hoping it's nothing serious. The vet reeled off a few possibilities of what it might be. As soon as she said skin cancer, I went into silent panic mode and the other ones didn't sink in... some dog owner I am.
Anyway, here is a picture of the lump. Has anyone seen anything like this before? I apologize for the terrible quality. It was taken on my phone . . . my camera died just as I was about to take the picture. Time for a new camera, I think.
