I've been a stalker of this forum for quite a while but never joined.. so this is my first post.
I have a 14 week old pup who I've had since 9 weeks old.
He is very well behaved, knows many commands and is 80% puppy pad trained.
The breeder also puppy pad trained him also so he was used to them before 6 weeks old. He has also been desexed so he doesn't leg-lift.
We live in a high-rise apartment and we permanently are using puppy pads. When we first got him he pee'd outside randomly, never pooped.
Now he will not under any circumstance pee or poop outside. I have stayed outside for 5 hours after giving him a big drink and feed and he wouldn't go, so I brought him inside and on his pad and he went straight away.
I take him for two walks a day, one 30-45 min walk in the morning and the same in the afternoon. I have taken a puppy pad outside with me and also in the car, but he holds it for hours and doesn't display any interest in the pad.
I know it sounds silly i'm complaining he is holding it - i'm not complaining about that as that is a skill and a half!
He holds it for road trips from Sydney to Newcastle and back and will not go until we get home! He's even followed other dogs at puppy school around while they pee and poop but he isn't encouraged to mark the spot himself!
Is there anything I can do or use to encourage him to do so?
