Every day on our walk we pass some government flats. Banjo's been greeting one of the resident cats there every day for months now. I give him a treat most days and apart from Banjo trying to trick him into leaving his treat so she can steal it, she doesn't show that much interest in him anymore.
He belongs to a woman who lives in a groundfloor flat with a courtyard close to the footpath. And the other day we discovered a brand new BIG distraction. There are now 2 pet rabbits in the courtyard.
I find the distraction quite annoying but I also find Banjo's reaction hilarious. I am always trying to imagine what she would say if she were a human. I think in this case it would involve lots of explicit language because "OMG! WTF! Effing BUNNIES!" It's been 3 days now and she still can't believe her eyes (and nose). It does mean I have to watch her extra carefully so I can call her back if the temptation gets too big - the flats are pretty much right in between the 2 ovals we frequent on our walk. But she has been good, and I reward her by letting her have a peek when we pass. I've been doing some LAT but I am actually unsure what it is I want her to do - I need to get my head round it first.
I do feel I should probably knock on the rabbits' owner's door to let her know that she really should provide them with more secure housing because one day soon she will discover the local foxes find them pretty irresistible too. Foxes killed all but one of the chooks at my daughter's primary school just around the corner from there.
