Hi Everyone --
I'm wanting some advice around the purchase of puppies...
My husband and I consider ourselves reasonably experience dog handlers, having been around dogs our entire lives (Me with German Shepherd and Rhodesian Ridgebacks and him with Blue Heelers), however we have recently had a VERY bad experience with our German Shepherd pup. We purchased her from a backyard breeder (our first mistake). We saw the mother and the grandmother, but not the father (our second mistake) and she was one of the quieter ones (our third mistake). Anyway, she has ended up, at 7 months of age, quite aggressive, which we have been told is more than likely genetic - as we have done nothing to cause it. We have had her at a regular trainer from the time she was 8 weeks of age, and more recently, given we weren't getting any results, took her to Michael Tucker (you may have heard of him, as he is the President of the Aussie Dog Trainers Association). Unfortunately, it has come to the stage where we have had to get rid of her. We are in the process of trying to re-home her with an ex dog squad cop, who now runs a security company. If it doesn't work out with him, we may have to put her to sleep.
Anyway, so that's our background - as you can imagine, our confidence has been shattered. We have now disided that we will purchase small dogs. Our family has two Mini Foxie bitches (one pure, the other x Maltese) from the same mother, who are bomb proof with kids and are really robust, happy little dogs. We have decided to breed one of them. So my questions are these:
1. We have desided to breed the Mini Foxie bitch to a nice Maltese. Does anyone now of a Maltese dog in the Melbourne area who may be good to breed with Mini (original name I know )?
2. We are wanting to take on two of the pups - does anyone have any thoughts around this? I realise taking on two large breed pups at the same time is a seriously bad idea - but having never had small dogs, I need some advice around this!
Thanks Everyone for taking the time to listen to my rant Hope you can help!
