Yesterday at the park I noticed Molly was cocking her leg like a male dog to pee, she wasn't doing it against trees etc, just on the grass and she would pee half standing up with one leg lifted. She only did it a few times and the other times she pee'd squatting like a female should. Is this normal behaviour? As she hasn't had much socialisation before coming to me she 'imprints' herself on other dogs quite easily... Meika is very 'talkative' and Molly has picked up this habit as well as heaps of Meika's other 'quirks' but Meika is a female and pees normally so it can't be from her. We do hang out with a lot of male dogs at the park so is it possible that she's picked it up from them in the hour or so we're there each day? I thought she might have sore hips/back and was unable to squat but she was only cocking her leg half the time so I don't think it was from pain.
If there is no harm in her peeing like this, then I don't really see a problem but out of curiosity I was just wondering if anybody has seen a female dog do this before? And what they think might cause it?
If it helps, she's somewhere between 18 months and 2yrs old, is a lab cross and came to me in April from a shelter so we don't know much about her past but she was very unsure of everything when I got her and didn't seem like she had had any socialisation or human/animal interaction before coming here.
