Hi all, just found this wonderful forum while researching info on our Staffy!
Thought i would say hi, show you our newest addition and also (if you will allow) ask a few questions.
This is Beau, he is just on 6 months old. We were visiting a local pet shop on Friday in search of some "closing down" goodies for our budgie Lu Lu. Seen this little boy and couldn't say no as we had recently (April) lost our family dog of 6 years. he was the last Staffy left and after chatting with the staff, they said he would go back to his birth home if they couldn't sell him. A few hrs later he was on his way home to his new family
The first day and a bit has been great! he has been the perfect little fella. No accidents as yet, no barking nothing. Just a quiet nature, happy, easy going pup.
He still seems very stand-off ish, but im hoping this is still a settling in thing. I took him in the car again today and have not left him alone. I want to try and get him comfortable with (and excited about) car travel and want to get him accustomed to a lead asap. I put his collar on as soon as we got home.
Wasn't to keen to go for a walk on his lead, but im not to concerned just yet.
All in all, what a great start! The scared bit worries me a little but i hope with time he will get past it.
Sooo, summing up... I would like and appreciate any advice to help our little boy settle in and love and be happy at his new home!
*He is six months, is this going to make it harder to settle him in? The pet shop i shop at is (and advertises) there dislike to puppie farms, so i believe his early weeks would have been somewhat good?
*Although very stand off ish, his tail wags at full steam. Is this a sure sign, although scared he is somewhat happy?
*Re the car travel, is it safe to just keep taking him with me? also the lead...Are there any well used methods to get him walking on his lead? His collar dont seen to worry him at all.
*Any fellow Staffy owners have any breed related tips to give me?
Thanks all for taking the time to read my long winded story, i just want to provide the best home for our new family member!
