Hmm I am finding this training harder than usual. Previous lab x didn't get it as quick but were very keen to please and I was the center of their world..
Mags doesn't merely pull on the lead she hurls forward. I turn around and go back the other way until she stops and then continue. Dreadful lead times, fortunately we have great off leash areas (empty beach and empty park) which save our sanity
Two weeks later I have not made progress. She can heel off the lead at home! Perfectly behaved in the back yard and focusses on me intently.
I was thinking hard yesterday as we sat having a rest and I realised when we are out it is almost impossible to get eye contact with her. It is not a problem at home. I am not sure but maybe this is a dominance thing. I don't speak dog and I am clearly not speaking in a way she understands.
She is very much a pack puppy and loves nothing better than a bunch of dogs to hang with. Loves to greet any bipeds, very socially driven.
She gets two walks a day and is slightly better at the end of a walk when she is tired.
We start obedience training today, I look forward to the day someone compliments me on my well behaved dog. It will be a milestone, a ways off yet We must look so ridiculous back and forth for a block to the park. My OH is VERY resistant to harnesses and halters.
Really just venting as we will get there eventually I know. I am curious about the eye contact thing though.
