BG, where are you based? Bark Busters methods are not the best and I would not use them myself - just my opinion.
I showed you all what my dogs did on the weekend. That was not SA or boredom. I had 2 of our 8 with me and I am guessing one of the others detected a ball in the folds of the hammock and tore the material to get the ball - from there , well we saw the end result.
Seperation Anxiety can be hard to extinguish and could take some time. Then again it could be medical. Have you had thyroid and diabetes tests done. If not, may be a starting point.
Thunder shirts are only effective in cases where stress levels are not very high so maybe not going to be very effective here although worth a try. They can be grabbed by a dog as they are long on the body. Getting him used to the shirt over a few nights would help.
DAP (Dog Appeasing Pheremone) comes in a spray and is also effective in cases where the stress is not to high.
Then there is Bach Rescue Remedy which again works at lower stress levels.
A combination of all three at the same time will not guarantee a greater effectivness.
Exercise him very well before you leave him alone. A tired dog will sleep for several hours. By exercise well I mean run him till he is pooped out. For me, swimming is the go. I can stand in knee deep water and hold a tail and the dog has to swim. A 10 minute swim is the same as a 5 km walk.
Personally, I would try all the above but I would crate train him as well. It will not hurt him to be crate trained and you will have peace of mind knowing that he is safe.
You will have to also go through all the stages of desensitising him - put shoes on and sit down. Pick up car keys and walk around the house jangling them. PIck up hand bag and walk to front door and turn around and go back. Put him in "his place" and close the door for just 20 secs and then go back - gradually increase time away.
I feel your pain. Know that this is going to be transitional and with patience and consistency you will end up with a good dog.
