I took the girls for a walk this afternoon and we were only about 25m from our house when a teenage girl who lives in the house a few houses down and across the street came out onto the footpath and yelled "I'm going to scream if I see another dog walk past here!" we were walking on the other side of the street so I just ignored her and kept walking so she yelled out again "I'm going to scream if I see another dog walk past here! And then I'm going to KILL it!".
We haven't had much to do with this family but in the 6 months we have lived here we have noticed that a lot of fights and dramas go on at their house, there is a police car there every few weeks and this girl that threatened me is about 17-18 years old and has a slight mental disability.. Due to this mental disability I didn't say anything to her (if it was anyone else I would've gone off my rocker!) but I am quite worried about what she said as we live in a dead-end cul de sac of about 15 houses with only 1 other dog and I've never seen him get walked so it's not like dogs are frequent and we were walking on the other side of the street, not even close to her house!
Because of this mental disability I really don't know how to approach the situation and I need advice. Should I ignore it, go over and try to speak to her mother/family and risk them getting abusive towards me or just call the police and report it in case something does happen again?
I don't like situations like this but I definitely don't like being threatened that my dogs (or any dogs) will be 'killed' if they walk past...
