Default Buddy Needs a New Buddy

We have a two year old cocker spaniel who needs to be relocated. His name is Buddy, is black and full of energy. Our family circumstances are changing and it won't be possible to keep him in the family.

He loves being walked but if we let him off the lead we have to coax him to put it back on it. He loves being groomed and is fine around other children and dogs.

He is scatty as he barks at a lot of things like feathers, his own shadow and especially birds. This only occurs in our own yard for some reason. He is territorial when it comes to food.

As we have never rehomed any of our previous dogs before any tips would be greatly appreciated as this foreign to us. We would hate to have to surrender him to the RSPCA but would be our last resort.

    Thanks Sparx

So I assume you arn't getting rid of him cause of his behaviour or a health issue?
    You're moving?
    Is he desexed?

    Hi

If he is showing food aggression...do not surrender him to RSPCA...he will not pass the temp test and will more than likely be pts

Have you contacted Cocker Spaniel rescue in NSW?

COCKER SPANIEL RESCUE- Please phone Royoni Kennels on 02 96068093

Thanks for your comments. Our house is on the market and we are finding it very difficult to find accommodation which allow pets.

Buddy is desexed and when we have gone on holidays he has gone to either relatives or Paws Pet Motel. We have never had a bad report from either.

I haven't contacted anyone else so far re rehoming, other than this site. My sister would have taken him but they have a property and she has had ticks so Buddy really isn't a suitable breed for her.

This makes me but I know the right person/s is out there somewhere.

    Sorry you can't keep him.

If you run out of time there will be dog rescue groups in your area that will take him on and he will have all the time he needs to find a new home.

If you need some rescue contacts let us know and we can find some for you.

Many thanks. This week he is having a haircut etc and I will enquire about putting a sign in the window also.

Well today is the worst day ever. Not only is my heart breaking, but seeing my kids hearts being destroyed is even worse. Buddy has gone to a new home which is great for him but this feeling that we are left with is I swear, much more soul wrenching than when I have had to PTS a sick pet. There is no consoling my two wonderful kids or having the answers that they want or need to hear. Your site is a great and I will continue to read. Sparx
