so i'm having a bit of trouble getting the puppy to sleep during the night.....at first i thought he was just getting used to being without his litter but he's been waking up twice/three times a night for about a week now.....I feed him his last meal around 5 and he gets no food or water after 7.....he has a little nap after dinner and then i wake him at around 7.30/8 and play with him/keep him awake for a few hours and then take him out to toilet before we go to bed (he sleeps in a basket next to my bed)....but no matter what i do he is still constantly waking up after a couple of hours of sleep and crying......and then again at around 5am....and then again at 7am.....I understand the 5am as he needs to go to the toilet, and 7am is when his day begins, but most times the first time he is waking up and wanting to play, i take him out to toilet but he either doesn't go or does a tiny wee....i try to ignore his cries when he wakes up the first time but i still get up in case he needs to pee.....during the day I am home 90% of the time and he is getting heaps of play time and rest time.....I know it is still early days and he will probably improve but I haven't gotten an unbroken sleep since I got him.....I was just wondering if anyone had a similar problem? or if there is something I am doing wrong? even just a 4 hour sleep unbroken would be nice .....I know crate training is an option but money is a bit tight so I gave that idea a miss lol

I think it is normal. Bella had me up a few times in the night as she was in our ensuite. It took a week or so before she started sleeping through the night. The worst thing was (and I am an idiot for doing it) she would only sleep if I was holding her, as soon as I put her down she would wake up and cry again! haha I think give it time. It will pass... its just like having a new baby in the house

haha thats funny i was saying to my OH last night that if he can't handle a puppy crying a couple of times a night, he isn't ready for a baby but that makes me feel better I was starting to think I was not going to sleep at all until he was houstrained . lol the first few nights I had him in our bed as he wasn't settling very well, but he just thought every time he woke up that it was play time so now I just keep my hand in the box until he falls asleep

Has he got anything with your scent on it? It might relax him a bit more. It is sooooo much like having a new baby lol.

my kitten does this at the moment, she sleeps in our room with us and I get woken up at all hours of the night by her playing.. either that or her toys in my back or head because she likes to carry them around with her! Strange kitty we've woken up with 3 or 4 toys in our bed some nights!

haha that is soo cute, reminds me of my cat when he used to go into hypo mode in the middle of the night lol. Yeah he has a blanket that he got from when he was with the litter and I tried the whole clock thing too, and he also gets a hot water bottle lol coz it gets a bit chilly at night I thought that might be why he was waking up so much....barney gets his own blanket too coz apparently his fur doesn't do it's job

Yesterday morning just before I took the kids to school, I said to my boyfriend, "babe, I'm not sure where Oskar is", because we like to make sure he is inside the house with doors closed before we open the gates to drive out the driveway.

He was under the covers of the bed, totally submerged haha.
