Thread: Before buying a puppy you should read this!!!

Default Before buying a puppy you should read this!!!

Often people buy a puppy without knowing where it came from and beleive the pet shop owner when they say it is from a reputable breeder. Check out this webpage Buying a Puppy - Rescue a Dog and watch the video link.

We rescued a female Rottweiler that was in a puppy mill and was used to make money from her pups. She was kept in a small concrete pen, with no attentions and was overbred. She was ceased by a council raid in western sydney as 1 or 18 dogs in varying states of health.

These puppy factories supply pet shops with dogs, so buying a puppy from a pet shop supports keeping adult dogs in porr often inhumane conditions.

Hundreds of thosands of dogs and cats are put down every year becasue they cannot find a home. Why not Resce a dog instead?

    rescue a dog

You're still in breach of forum terms and conditions - you haven't answered my private message - so I'm making a public one.

I disagree with a number of statements on your website. It is possible to be a legal and even ethical breeder and not registered with ANKC, and it is possible to be a puppy farmer and registered with the ANKC.

And I posted a poll at a website frequented by ethical breeders recently - and all of them think it is ok and a really good idea to advertise on the web and internet classifieds - because that's where puppy buyers look first and you want the responsible breeders to be right there next to the dodgy ones so at least the public has a choice presented to them.

So I notice that you have at least one rescue listed on your website that allows dogs to be rehomed that are not desexed - and to me that is not the work of an ethical rescue organisation. So if you post again like this, without responding to my pm, I will ban you.

    Hi Hyacinth,

I did reply to your message earlier this aftenoon, so please check your messages before threatening people!

I am not aware which site I have listed does not desex dogs for rescue, so please inform me of which site. Please confirm how you know your information is correct and I will remove from my website.

    Hi Alan

You went ahead and posted including your sig without answering all my questions or waiting for my reply. Most of your posts look like forum spam to me - ie they're not part of the forum conversation - you're just posting lots of links to your website.

"threatening people" - I'm not making threats - I'm trying to moderate the forum. Which means that I enforce the rules. You can't just start a thread to plug your website or advertise a product - that's spam, but if you have something on your website that is relevant to the discussion - I will allow a link to that.

I can't tell if you mean well and you're just not familiar with forum ettiquette - so your posts look rude as well as breaking the rules, or you really are like a radical politician who evades answering questions and does whatever they want and doesn't listen to anybody.

I appreciate you have removed the sig, but it's not the only forum rule.
You might want to read the top four threads on this list before you post again.

The policy I have a problem with is printed on the rescue's website. They cannot list with petrescue because of it.
    S A dog website in their Q&A

S A D R’s policy is that all adopted dogs will be desexed, either before or after adoption. In some instances, such as dogs with health issues or pups under six months the dog may be released for adoption prior to desexing.

If this is the case, the SADR adoption contract allows SADR to seize the dog if desexing is not carried out and/or proof of desexing is not provided within the contracted period of time.
Other rescues and shelters find that this kind of "contract" cannot be enforced, and people lie or change their minds or just never get organised to get their new dog desexed, and then - more unwanted puppies.

Agree doesn't mean a registered ANKC breeder is following the ethics of the club - is there an audit going around to check every kennel? I've seen some breeders who are ANKC registered posting videos and have more than 25+ puppies in one breedibng
