Default Shar Pei Pup Skin Problems

    Hello,

my 12 week old Shar Pei cross puppy has come up in small bumps (look like mosquito bites) all over his body. I first noticed them on his upper back/shoulder area but they are now on his legs also.

He had his 12 week vaccination a week ago and i thought this was a mild allergic reaction to that but now i'm worried it may be an allergy possibly diet related?? we are feeding him a combination of tucker time puppy meat and advance puppy biscuits.

does anyone know if this is a common shar pei problem or can you reccomend possibly any dietary changes? any feedback would be greatly appreciated. the bumps don't seem to be bothering him i.e not itching or sore to touch.

    Thanks very much!

Hi! Hmmmm it could be diet related- so you would want to perhaps steer clear of grains and red meat based foods. Vet's All Natural make 'Allerblend' specifically designed for allergies. I think from memory BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) suggest pork and roo as being good for skin. I'd be trying to wash the little fella in a product called Malaseb, it's a medicated skin shampoo- don't wash him in anything else as it will probably just aggravate the skin. If he starts lookinng like it's annoying him pain I'd be heading to the vet they'll probably put him on Science Diet ZD which is best for skin but only available from vets!! Good luck!

Share Pei Rescue Inc Forums • View topic - My pei has funny little blister lumps on his skin...

You might want to join the forum there which is specific to Sharpei and Sharpei x - they do have their own health concerns especially related to their skin - that other dogs don't have.

Or you could email them for some more specific sharpei care instructions.

My princess gets allergies if her diet changes and gets yeast built up during the build up (tropical weather sucks!)
