An old t/shirt that you have worn, placed in the bedding area so the pup has your scent.
And the old trick is the ticking clock that is hidden in it bed to make the sound of a heart beat. And you could even look for some sort of barrier to keep the pup where you want it to stay. But that one isn't so needed in my mind.

As Rid said the old t-shirt that you have worn (with some B/O on it, not freshly washed).
Our dog still keeps an item of clothing, usually a sock, in his bed although jocks and leggings are a favourite as well. I have seen him helping himself from the laundry basket.

Sorry, I just went back and read your post again. The Teddy idea is great- with his own mothers' scent on it.
We did not have the opportunity to do this as our pup came from the pound.

Snoop is a bit naughty, we just have to confine him to certain parts of the house now, or outside.

I suggest getting or making some tug toys too.

Have a couple available at any one time and keep the others put away, and then every couple of days put away the ones that are out and get out some that were put away ie rotate the toys so they seem new more often.

This site has a good list of puppy needs.

The jumper that smells like me isn't something I did much - but yes, I used it for bed time and also for if I was going out for a while and my puppy had to stay in her crate.

I also left the radio on when I was out. Hard to tell if it helped or not - for a while it looked like she spent most of her time shredding the newspaper I also left in there.
