Default The Ups & Downs Of Getting a Pup

Its an unfortunate reality that Dalmatians have a very real chance of being born deaf... unfortunatly this was the case for my Chief.
I knew this was a very real risk, but out of 9 pups and 1 being deaf was just my luck . its so sad not only for me but the poor breeder and his family who have spent the last 7 weeks with this guy, has anyone else had this happen?
I really appreciated how the breeder told me and the rest of the litter were 100% (I dont know if I should be posting this or not... I kinda needed to share)
.... I did get to pick preference for another pup... its just a little strange calling another pup Chief

Aw no that sucks! specially when you had your heart set on Chief! I am not sure what is involved in looking after a deaf dog, but did for a while help walk a nearly blind and hard of hearing cattle dog who was a real goer! You wouldn't of even noticed he had anything wrong with him (apart from when he ran into things) and was a really happy dog!

There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.

the breeder is not allowed to sell or breed from deaf dogs...if they were allowed to sell him I would still purchase him, he was a good natured pup.

Oh Misschief I am sorry That is terribly dissappointing, especially as you chose out a pup.

    What terrible luck.

I am not religious but I do believe that things happen for a reason. I am sure that the new pup you pick will live up to and exceed your expectations

Naww thanks, when i saw him for the first time he was a very loud pup...that is a sign that the chances of him being deaf are probable.
The new one I have picked is just as cute....his markings are very unique and certainly not what I expected to be drawn to....but Im not going to post any photos till the pup is well into my posession as anything can happen between now and next friday.

Oh you poor bugger, I can imagine you were getting quite attached to the idea of bringing that pup home, like every one else, I am very curious as to what will happen to him

Well that sux!! Poor little bloke, can't they just give him away or at a heavily reduced price?? He is deaf, he can still be taught with hand signals and such...I think that is so unfair, and all because of a pedigree standard.
