Why don't we just cull them all and start again?
    <edit personal insult>

Let me rephrase in the hope that you get it.....

Putting down healthy, happy dogs with no health, emotional or physical issues, defects or deformities is a tragedy.

Putting down a puppy with no hearing (irreversible), meaning it will always be in danger for it's entire life is in the puppies best interest....

NOT knowingly breeding pups just to have to put them down is in the puppies best interest.

Calling people thick or commenting on their language ability because they do not agree with you is just rude. I don't know why so many people think that it is totally ok to talk to other people like that on a forum. It always makes me think that they must feel like they are losing the argument if they start playing the man instead of the ball. It's quite sad and spoils the forum experience for lots of people.

So they have to immediately get it right? They have to predict exactly how the genes are going to work? Hell we can't even do that with humans, plants or any other animal.....

They are working on fixing the issues.... At least it's one puppy as opposed to all of them, and in some cases they aren't getting that one puppy anymore. They are doing ALL THAT THEY CAN to stop the puppies being born deaf.... What more can they do?? These things take time....

Did you see the link on pg 14 that I just posted? They have started outcrossing to get more genes into the pool in the UK - with the permission of the UKC....

"They" are not getting the support of the breeders community.

‘My efforts have been unpopular. Breeders and clubs don’t want impure dogs and they see this genetic modification as interfering with the breed. It is interfering, but it is to introduce a healthy gene. I hope one day I can persuade them it is the right thing to do.’
Because the purity of the genes seem to be more important than the health and well being of the dogs.

Just makes me shake my head in disbelief.

30% of all Dalmation pups born is generally more than 1 puppy or even just a couple.

How long have they been breeding these deaf pups for? I ask again, how many of them had to be killed and how many more to "get it right"? For the sake of who exactly? Obviously not the dogs. They couldn't care less about the purity of their genes. It's for the sake of creating fashionable dogs that fit some random standard created by people who care more about what a dog looks like than anything else.

And these are the same people looking down their noses at breeders of "designer dogs"? Puh-lease!

    Who said 30%????

I gave a theoretical example of 'lets say 1 in each litter is deaf, as there are 18 litters currently advertised lets say there's 18 pups.' So where did you get 30% from?

Umm I didn't say anything about that. I said that the governing body is taking charge.... Just as the Dalmation Club (a chosen governing body) is taking charge of the issues of deaf pups arising. That rule wouldn't be in there willy nilly....

LOL That's the way I am in real life too Beloz. I'd have no hesitation saying the same thing to your face as I do online. Those who have met me know that. Got nothing to do with playing the man instead of the ball, whatever the hell that means (I don't do ball sports).
