I can handle it and in a way alot of it has been rewarding watching him learn.

But twice now he's done things that sorta stressed me out. The first one was on saturday. I looked out the back and he looked like he was chewing a brown leaf. I walked out to give him a pat and to my horror he was chewing a bloody cane toad. I washed his mouth out immediately and watched him for the rest of the day. Luckily he showed no ill effects.
And then this afternoon i tried him on his first chicken neck expecting him to sit down and chew it but instead he picked it up and tried to swallow it whole. I jumped up and just managed to grab the end of it and pull it out of his throat. He would have choked for sure.
I then held it while he chewed it to pieces which was much better but i wont be feeding them to him unsupervised. I guess it will stop him becoming aggressive around his bones if he gets used to me holding it.
The last piece i couldnt hold was swallowed in seconds though. It didnt bother him one bit and he gave me a smart ass look when he did it.
I can tell its going to be interesting with this Bullmastiff, he's getting cheekier every day.
Bull mastiff puppy swallowing food whole without chewing?
    surely not!
    lol

Methinks we have a very protective mumsy with a new pup here.
He sounds great. I bet he's bomb proof.
and my 2 dogs used to chew and kill cane toads all the time. I dont think they'd read the book that said they tasted nasty and can kill. Im glad, coz roughly 50 went that way between them in a year in qld.

ps. dogs dont have to chew food. Their saliva chemical digestive juices are much stronger than humans, and will break it down easily. My pup doesnt chew chicken wings either, at 12 weeks, will wolf down whole in case big bro decides he wants it. She'll barf it up somewhere quieter later, then eat it at her leisure.
    Nice eh?
