I do a lot of retrieve training...water rescue and such and I always say "Thank you". I think because it sounds soft the dogs like it. I fully agree with you

This is so good to hear that we ain't the only ones that say it.
I think it is respectful also.

I think it is the tone of voice rather than the words.

Last night I went to the toilet and when I came out Murphy was sitting at the back door. He looked at me then to the door and I knew right away what he was asking.
I opened the door the then screen door and out he went.
Right to the lawn and Squated and he just went to the toilet by asking to be let outside.
So now we know he is toilet trained.
it was a very proud moment, I know it sounds silly but I was.
My little boy is growing up.

It is nearly as exciting when a dog clicks as it was when you could see the light bulb go off in your children's eyes. Zeke has now started doing a circle at the back door and a fake squat, lol I have a feeling he thinks we are stupid sometimes.

I too have had this win with Jess going from being a totally outside dog to an inside/outside one.

My dog does variations of this too.

The sit, then the pathetic bark.

But if I'm at the computer she has to be a lot louder.
