Thread: Microchipping

    Default Microchipping

Tonight we took Murphy to the vets for him to get his microchipping done. As well as he was getting his last injection. So he now is on booster shots once a year.
He got his injection first of then the Microchip was done. And not a whimper at all he just layed there and took it. But he did bleed a little, not that he cared at all.
I weighted him and he is now at 18 weeks old 14.4 kilo's. And I think where he is at I am thinking he would have to be about half the way to his full size.

Don't forget it needs to be another 2 weeks before Murphy ventures into the big wide world, due to the many unvaccinated animals and uncaring owners Happy times to come! It's amazing how they don't feel that MASSIVE needle going in, my Jasper was the same - not a flinch, little bleed - back to 'normal'.
My Jasper is in vets at moment, as had a operation, but he weighs 33.8Kgs and is 8 months old today!

What breed is Jasper by the way, and I hope it isn't a real bad operation, not that any operation is good.
I thought the same that we have to wait the 2 weeks but our vet said only 1 week before taking him out with other dogs where we don't know if they have been imunised.
So when I heard this I almost fell over to hear that.
So it looks like Murphy and me will be able to get into Obedience training very soon.
I said to the vet that our son has a German Shepard and when he got his microchip aparently he yelped the house down. And she said that quite a few Shepards are like that.

You have to find the balance between the risk of health/illness or the risk of an undersocialised, fearful dog.

Personally I'd much rather risk the (minimal) chance of a dog falling ill and ensure I have a balanced, stable & obedient dog.

Is this is 3rd vaccination? At 18 weeks he should be fine, show dogs go out into the big wide world at 12 weeks after only 2 shots. Obviousyl just avoid areas you think would be of danger, same as you would with an adult dog.

I have only had to have one dog chipped and he spun around and made the vet let go of the needle, so he had it dangling from his neck bobbing around and still didn't cry.

My vet said it was ok to organise play dates for my puppy with other dogs we knew were fully vaccinated.

    Worked for us.

My puppy kindy class only requires the first vaccination shot.
    Does that sound right?
I'd hate for him to pick up/give somthing to/from another pup.

No you dont have to wait. Your dog is free to frolic now. Behaviour permitting.
I suggest you call your vet and seek confirmation regarding vaccination, rather than contain it unecessarily. Things sure do change over the years.

    That's right.

Every other pup has to have that vaccination too Sean.
