Everyone will have differing opinions but what is best for your dog is what it does best on.
Dogs on a supermarket of pal meatybites and canned food can do just as well as those on the high end of the market or on other diets..Raw,Barf.

Mine are on supercoat and a raw bone.
Vet also comments on soft glossy coats and exceptional teeth.

As Ange says there are MANY threads on this to look back through and it isn't rocket science but trial and error to get what you feel is best.

Any posts made under the name of Di_dee1 one can be used by anyone as I do not give a rats.

I feed Royal Canin. His coat is beautiful.

I would feed Raw but have no idea where to start (not to mention I am terrible at preparing food for myself let alone a dog!)

I'm a bit of a slacker when it comes to what I feed my dog, it seems. The only effort I really make is to make sure she gets food without artificial stuff. So Supercoat and whatever canned food that claims to not have those.

But I must say that my new dog farts heaps! And she barely touches her dry food for some reason.
