Thread: Outdoor Kennel

    Default Outdoor Kennel

This is going to be Murphy's outside kennel when we leave him alone.
But this wont be until he is about 6 months or so.
So far he has only had a look in then came right out.
It use to be our firewood box.
I got the drum from next doors and modified it.
So now it is a waiting time to use it.
I have made it so it is out the weather.
With a flat platform to walk into it.
Don't know if he will use it when we are not .
But I know he has a dry place to be when we are not home.

it looks sturdy and comfortable for the dog.

Are you thinking of having a window/vent somewhere for summer?
I love cooking but I love eating even more.

The actual top is on hinges (I made them), so it can be lifted up to let in moving air.
But I would say that I don't think there will be any need for it as he is gunna be an indoor dog. Only going out to empty himself. So the airconditioner will be his mate during summer.

I am home most days all day due to my back.
I can only do a few things here and there.
So this allows me to have the time to spend with my boy.
And we are home bodies mainly and only going out a few times a week.
And this means this may never be used but it is there if it is ever needed.

Looks good to me. Try throwing some treats in there for him to go in and get so he realises that this scary new thing is ok. Big praise when he does.

When he is a little older and allowed the whole yard to run about in.
Is when I will do that but thank you for those tips all the same.
Our yard is you go out the back and we have a yard about the sze of the normal
smallish home now. Then there is the pergola on the shed.
Behind the shed is a large area where my ute belong.
And at this time he is only in the back yard and only with us in the Backback as we call it.
So when he is big enough we will move things so he can get out there.
At this stage I think it is way too much for him.
Though when he goes out there with us he has a ball bitting at the branches and leafes.
This will happen soon enough, but we want him to be a pup for a while longer yet.

My lot would love that. It would be inspected and promptly taken over by our head girl in no time at all, she is the queen of "any thing new is mine".

All my dogs love kennels. They are all home made too. Though if the Borzoi keeps removing the bedding from each and every kennel and bringing it out of the run and onto the wet grass the Whippets may go on strike.
