Thread: 3 Down to 2 Feeds

Default 3 Down to 2 Feeds

We have just taken Murphy in for his second set of injections.
And the vet said that it is now time to cut him down to 2 feeds a day.
I am thinking that he is only 13 weeks old now and he should still be getting 3feeds a day.
I am wondering waht others think of this is it too early or is it about the right time.
I will say that he is now 10.1 kilo's. Which makes it he has put on a kilo a week that we have had him.
He isn't fat but he is solid and heavy to pick up but this is his build.
So if you have any input please tell me and put me straight on this.
    Thank You all.

If you are feeding him on good natural food and he is doing well two feeds are enough, if you get his breed fat he is far more likely to have bones problems, if you want to give an extra feed mak it a bone with not a lot of meat on it. Heaps of fun for him but nothing fattening, a kilo a week is a lot, you may be heading toward a fat dog there Rid 8>)

He is a solid boy from day dot and I don't think he has changed too much just as he is getting taller or bigger he is going along with the weight to.

At 13 weeks Ruby was still on three feeds a day. I would say give it a few more weeks then drop his lunch for say a bone or something.

Katy stopped eating her lunch at about fourteen weeks....I go by weight. I like my dogs lean and increase or decrease according. We feed RAW and a large part of it is bones. meaty ones. But I have gotten used to adjusting and knowing what to feed.
I have had pups that have had needed three and even four meals at times. It all depends on the pups

You know your dog best and should do what you think is right. If you want to do 3 feeds a day then do it. Our pup at that age got 3 feeds a day till he was about 7 months when he decided that 2 meals a day was enough. They will tell you. I sometimes now feed Axel who is 12 months old 3 times a day if he wishes it. He will tell me. I just spread his amount over the 3 feeds if that is what he desires. A puppy generally needs 3 smaller meals a day and when they are going through a growth spurt sometimes a bit more than normal feeds a day. If you are hungry you eat when you want so they are no different. If the vet says 5 cups a day you just spread that over 3 meals to 2 or if he wants a bit more let him have it. Hope this has helped.
