    To back up Kala..
People need to realise there is a different between a BC from showdog lines to a BC from working dog lines..

For example: we have a ACD who we got from a breeder who shows ACD cos at the time OH didn't need a working dog. We got a kelpie from a farmer cos OH needs a working dog now. Now ACD couldnt do any sheep work to save himself, but the kelpie, well she is a freak.. Totally smart and knew what to do straight away.. The reason why we got the kelpie from a farmer is because we knew it was totally from working dog line.

IMO, there is no such thing as reponsible crossbreeding.

Once the farmers see a market, that's it.
Unfortunately the true purpose of crossbreeding has been lost in the rush to make a lot of money and to capture a fashion while it lasts.

Some of our best working dogs breeds such as cattle dogs, kelpies, koolies etc were the result of crossbreeding, ruthless culling (fact of life back then, sterilisation an option these days) and then line breeding to greatly enhance the charateristics that were required after much testing under the brutal working conditions.

Bred by master stockmen for a specific purpose as a neccessity of the era. Developed to fill a gap that could not be filled with an existing breed.

That is the true purpose of crossbreeding, not this see a market and pump out pups by the hundreds to satisfy the latest fashion at high prices. That is when things go pearshaped. All sorts of types are then bred by all sorts of irresponsible breeders looking to make a quick buck. Every man and his dog jumps on the bandwagon.

    Except this. A real purpose.

-hint- A Pug X Cavvie serves no real purpose.

What do you think made the dogs you have today.
How can purebreds with no genetic diversitity within their breed that started to have very high % genetic faults fix it without another breed.
Most working dogs are crossbreds, might call it a kelpie but really it's mum was a kelpie dad was a x but still makes a great dog.
Most people that want a dog to do a job are finding it hard to get such a dog these days within the purebreds as so many have such high rates of faults that affect thier health.
There are bad breeders on both sides of the fence. I don't know how anyone can call taking back everything you ever breed if needed is irresondsible

So everyone should just breed their own dogs to create whatever new breed they want?

    who said that?????????????
Not everyone can afford to always take back what they breed, not everyone has enough room.
But it takes like a lifetime not a 1 off cross breeding.
And I am against false names & marketing just say it how it is a poodle x not a moodle or whatever.
There is more x breeds than poodles anyway.
I have given my life & money to animals & will continue to yet some poeple who have 1 or 2 pets & may have rescued 2 or 3 dogs in their whole lives want to judge me, I do not get it.
I don't contribute to pounds etc & have happy dogs whats so bad about what I am doing.

There are already 'Moodles' in shelters wanting a home.

    Ok genuine question here.
If I got Lady(Kelpie X BC) health and temperament tested and she came back 'perfect' and she was 5 years younger and Roly(JRT X Maltese) if he had perfect health and temp. test results and was 7 years younger, would it be 'ok' for me to breed them?

ETA; I agree Molly. There are over 155 dog breeds in the world. There has GOT to be a breed that suits your criteria/lifestyle.
