Thread: What Would You Do?

    Unhappy What Would You Do?

I was on a web site today and came accross a puppy that was a giveaway, IT looked just like one of sheeby's pups that we had up for adoption a couple of months ago. So we called up the lady and it turns out it is. So we offered to take her back. I would rather know that she is safe and I will now find her a safe and suitable home to go to.
As it turned out OT's mum is going to take her. She is being dropped off tomorrow. I did tell every one who took a pup that if for any reason you cannot keep them then we will take them back and find them suitable homes.

Would you do the same thing?

I was kind of horrified to see her on there. I thought I had picked good homes for them all.

We were told no reason why they were giving her away. We dont even know her name(pup). I'm just glad I found her and not some ratbag who may use her byb breeding or something. She is a belgian Shepherd X rotti we think.
Sheeby is a pure Belgian and was heavily preggers when we got her.
So please dont judge me I am not a byb my dogs are now all Desexed and we sold the pups for the price of the vaccs and to help pay for sheeby's desexing. We made no profit off it at all. If anything we were out of pocket.
10 big Puppies eat alot of food. lol

So to get over my rant, I just wanted to know if you would do the same?

I think you've done the best you could Natt. Not even registered breeders aren't 100 % sure whether their pups will end up adopted with trustworthy people.
There's perhaps one thing I'd do - I'd occasionally check up on pups and phone people who took them just to see if they're OK and if everything's going OK with them.
Respect and you shall be respected. Animal is always right.

    I agree with Di dee.

It must have been awful for you but at least you have the pup back.

Good on you. You did a good thing.

I do send emails and I do get the occaisional one back. I love the fact that my sister has my fav pup. Two was my pick of the litter. She brings her round all the time to socialise and play.

    Absolutely!

I wouldn't let my dogs breed (hypothetically, mine are both desexed) without being prepared to take on ALL the pups if need be. You never know when circumstances might change.

Good on you for taking her back, it's very lucky you spotted her!

I also took on a heavily pregnant ACD. 4 pups. Two stayed with me, one is now my Father in Law's loved working dog and the remaining one found a good home through rescue. As he is surrendered I have no claim but should I see him advertised I would take him back to rehome in a heartbeat. I have heard twice from his new owners.

It is so good you found her.

I think all breeders should offer to take a puppy back if the new owner can't keep the dog for any reason.

You just never know how things are going to turn out for the new homes, it seems sad that they didn't think to call you first when they couldn't keep the puppy.

I think you did a good thing, and I would do the same if I was in the same situation.
