Default What to Do with a Puppy when I Get Married?

Well I have just seen that my puppy's mum was mated on the weekend and that she would be ready to come home on the 25th September!
We are getting married on the 22nd November and will be away the night before and night of at least. We can put off our honeymoon but our puppy will be about 4 months old when we are away for those 2 nights.

I guess my options are to:
    1. leave her at home and have a neighbour check on her (a bit iffy considering we will be moving to a new house before we get her)
    2. take her to a kennel
    3. get a pet sitter to check on her and walk her
    4. take her with me and possibly leave her at a cousins house for those 2 nights
    5. or possibly ask the breeder if they would consider it.

I know all my other pets would be fine alone for 2 nights, but a puppy alone outside for 2 nights seems like a terrible idea.

What would you do? And at what age (of the puppy) do you think we could go on a honeymoon and leave our puppy with family?

Omg I just thought, I shouldn't get too excited, if they don't have enough girl puppies I will miss out anyway

Sorry I'm a bit lost with your dates.

If it meant delaying getting the puppy for a few days then I would leave it at the breeders and get it when you return.

If you mean that it will be with you for a few weeks, then you get married and go away then again I might ask the breeder, or I would have family/friend stay.

Having said that when I got my first ever very own Kelpie pup I took it away camping when it was 7 weeks old for 4 days. It was a great bonding time, but it was camping, perfect for a pup.

Sorry MAC, I would get the puppy around the 25 September. I would be away on the 21, 22 and 23 November - so 2 nights. The puppy would be almost 4 months old.

The reason I was thinking of taking the puppy with me to stay with a cousin is that we are getting married about 3 hours from where we live, which is where a lot of my family live. And with everyone being there for our wedding I can't really ask them to look after my pets at my house.

Would you being a breeder yourself consider looking after a puppy you have sold? Obviously I would pay the breeder for it and supply food and other necessities.

I have in the past looked after puppies I've bred and will again.

If your puppy has settled in well with your older dogs then I'd be inclined to keep them together unless you have good options elsewhere.

Bear in mind that if your puppy is going to be mingling with other dogs either at a kennel or at a friends or cousins house etc it needs to have had it's final booster + 2 weeks.

Hope the wedding goes according to plan.

Thanks MAC, I think I would prefer to ask the breeder so I hope it will be an option!

I actually don't have a dog at the moment. I "borrow" my in-laws dog sometimes, and I used to have a dog until I was 15 (22 now). Toby loves other dogs, and has puppies to play with so he won't be a problem!

Mm, I am pretty sure my cousins all have dogs so that may not be an option anyway. Their injections are 8, 12 and 16 weeks aren't they? That means she would have had her final vacc the day before we leave. Could she even go back to the breeder then?

I am meeting my breeder next weekend so I will talk to her about it then. I may have to wait for the next litter if I can't work something out.

Thanks, I just need to plan the wedding and then it should go to plan

Oh Ok, sorry thought you already had an older dog.

Your puppy can travel if you know the dogs it would staying with are disease free and the area is free of parvo.

Also if the other dogs would welcome a puppy. Or if they had a safe area for puppy to be kept.

I know of a few breeders who dog-sit digs they have previously bred. You can only ask
Good luck with your wedding!!! Mine was the best day of my life
