  1. #1

    Default Name for New Pup

In a month i will be receiving my German Shepherd puppy and have started to think of names and was curious how you guys picked/decided on names.
He's a boy and is expected to be quite big and was wondering what names do you have for your boy dogs/where did you come up with it

    Thanks everyone

Had a few names picked out and then waited until I saw the puppy to see which one fitted.

Sometimes I look back thru it's pedigree to see if a name there jumps out at me.

Also there are sites for baby names and pet names.

I decided on Troopa as it's a strong name and fits him well. I got the idea from my grandparents past GSD who was named Major.

Other names that were shortlisted were; Sarge, Asha, Chase & Benji. Troopa just always stuck out though

    Exclamation

we picked our based in part on it's registered name, his colour and something we loved.
His name is Kingston (after the biscuit).

I have a friend with two dogs - Shiraz and Lindt. They also got the names from something they loved. Again they also matched the dog coat colours too.

I named lex After the the first letter of our dog that passed away "Lisa"
And Lex came about because of Lex Luther the villan, he was abit of a villan when he was a puppy

I had names already picked out but we found a little guy at the RSPCA with the name Banjo and realised we couldnt change such a perfect fitting name!
The names we had picked depending on what suited was Monty or Elvis.
I once met a german shep named Zeus which i thought was pretty good name

GSDs can get away with the bigger, tougher names - my boy is a crazy kelpie cross and he was called Rex when I got him. He's soooo not a Rex!

But Rex for a GSD might be a bit cliched....how about Inspector?

I have placed an order with a breeder in NSW for a Japanese Spitz and have decided that he or she will have a Japanese name. I have been googling my fingers off trying to find Japanese names that link to the Japanese Spitz and have come up with a few but not many. As the pup will not be ready until August i still have plenty of time.

Have you thought about a name of German origin? Or perhaps a name of strong character considering the German Shepard is a big strong dog? Just throwing a few ideas out there, you never know what will come up when you throw just a few words in google
