Really? Overweight? Shes not chubby anywhere else but on the belly. I feed her 1/2 cup of dry in the morning and 1/2 cup of dry plus about 1/4 cup of raw chicken mince for dinner. Plus treats when training!
Just remember to take a little bit out of her dry food when you're feeding her copious amounts of treats! Otherwise it's a bit messy

I'm more than happy to help. I remember my first foster so well and having all of the same kind of concerns as you are having - as well as my first dog!

I'm sure all the canine cuddles and kisses you get make it all worthwhile!

thanks! it's nice to hear that! I must admit it was OH who read up on the heart disease thing and then informed me! We only read one or two articles as they seemed quite grim and thinking about having to say goodbye to Poppy and having to explain it all to our future children made us a little sad!

Dog food bags come with a use by date on them, if you get a big bag then get yourself a good airtight container to store it. I have a couple of metal bins in my office with a kind of clip lock thingy on the lid, I tip the bags into those, then keep a smaller plastic bin in the kitchen which holds 2-3 days worth of food.

I truly don't understand the people with a holier than thou attitude who believe you should know everything about everything before you do anything. We all have to learn, and if you don't ask the questions you won't learn anything. Never ever be afraid to ask any question, no matter how silly you may think it is, 9 times out of 10 those are the questions that you really need to ask because the answer may be more obscure than you think!

If I ever do make you feel stupid for anything, slap me in the face I'd deserve it.

TBH I really appreciate having someone around my age who is just as obsessed with her dog to talk to! No-one I'm friends with in reality (excluding yourself and Rosie's mum) are into training at all. They have dogs for their kids, who aren't trained, who have no recall and they wonder why I get cranky with them.

As far as the food goes, even with the zip-lock bags for supercoat it'll go off FAST! If you're going down that road (tonnes cheaper too btw) make sure you have a large container to put it into otherwise it will go off and be a waste!

Batty is being spoiled tonight. He's sleeping up on the bed with me. But only because I've been watching movies and he was really calm and quiet the whole time He's snuggled up to my side at the moment

I think for now I will stick to the smaller bags. The brand I buy does have a ziplock on the HUGE bags but if it goes off quickly I will just buy little bags. I know I would save a few bucks on the bigger bag but then I would spend those bucks buying a big air tight bin! Haha!

Thanks Ange! I doubt you will ever say anything to make me feel stoopid! I don't think OH realised how OTT I would be about Poppy before we got her. I just want to do things right. I want to be educated. I want a well mannered happy little dog that other people and dogs enjoy spending time with. I am not a HUGE animal lover (I know...shock horror) and I think that comes from knowing SO many pets that are disobedient and jump all over you/lick you etc etc etc... I DO NOT WILL NOT have that!

I was VERRRRY close to putting Poppy in bed with me last night! We had such nice cuddles on the couch and OH is away for work but I don't want her to get out of the great sleeping routine we have going!

Oh and thanks for the tip about the dry food! I think I learn't that the hard way yesterday. When I got home and let her out of her pen she went off and wee'd and poo'd and poo'd and poo'd! I swear she did 3 or 4 poos. THEN I thought...great! All done! Inside we go...about 15 mins later I smell something!!! Another 3 poo's inside! I think all the treats from Puppy Preschool must have caused it...can't think of anything else...

I don't feed a meal after puppy school They get far too many treats to need one

Batty wound up getting crated at about 11pm... He started wanting to play not sleep. He was sleeping nicely until then...

It's always good to have a goal going into pet ownership. I'm very much an animal person but even I can't handle the things you've described. I don't like disobedient animals at all. I do make lots of allowances for puppies, but some things are just not on. Oh, and you're not OTT you're responsible - there is a huge difference IMO.
