Thread: Am I Doing It Right???

Default Am I Doing It Right???

So I just put Poppy outside by herself for the first time. I am at home listening to her cry and squeal and ready to just go get her...BUT I want her to learn its okay to be outside by herself.

I keep checking on her thru the bedroom window...I can see her but she can't see me.

I read in other threads that you HAVE to wait till they stop whining before you go out to them.

So when (and please let it be soon!) she stops whining do I go out and give her a treat or what do I do?

    TIA!

Seconded Be as calm as you can. It's no big deal, nothing to make a fuss over. She will be all over you for a while though

How long does she have to be quiet for? And how long should I leave her for?

    Glad I'm doing it right!

Oh good! She was quiet for that long, just went and got her, was all cool, calm and collected, gave her a treat, said good girl, gave her her toys and now she quiet and happy inside.

Q #2 for the day...she found a toilet roll today!!! She chewed a lot and I don't know how much she ate...can it hurt her if she ingested too much?

Yep! She sure did love it! Glad to know it can't hurt her!

Q # 3 - should we still let her sleep in our ensuite with the gate across...OR should we put her in the doggy pen in the tiled living area?

And...if I spend the weekend 'teaching' her to be outside...leaving her longer and longer each time do you think she will be ready so spend a day outside alone on Tuesday. DF will be home on Monday so that can be a 'teaching' day too! I will only leave here at 10am on Tues and DF will be home at 3pm...

    WDYT???

I feel that you do it any way you feel is best, that suits you both. Fitting your pet into your life is just that, your needs, theirs all taken into account. Dogs to not :think,,oh my dog (thanks Grey, am pinching that one) they are leaving me, I wonder how long for. They want food, shelter, love and sometimes have to have restrained conditions even though they don't like it (eg Bandit in the bathroom at nights for a week after his op so litter mates would not rip his eye open) they adapt and their sensibilities are not offended. They will greet you just the same no matter which way you do it.
