Poppy just did a poo and it was a tiny bit more soft than her others and there was LOTS of grass in it! I looked ... again ... coz I'm still paranoid about worms!

So what things can cause a puppy to have an upset tummy? Should I stop the puppy milk with her food?

    TIA!
If she is getting a balanced diet...why is she getting puppy milk?

This sort of a response is NOT helpful!!!

I am giving her puppy milk on the advice of the person I bought her from.

I assumed I was doing the right thing.

If I am not, please help educate me about balanced diets for puppies.

That WOULD be helpful and that would be appreciated!

    Amy,

I posted earlier that I give very young puppies Biolac but by 8 weeks they are on water only.

I've raised quite a few litters and have never liked the milk products you buy in the supermarket even if the do say safe for dogs.

Maybe I wasn't direct enough but I try not to ram my opinions down people throats so use the "I do this with my dogs" "or I have found this works".

Most of my friends are breeders and we are all the same. Nothing substitutes like mothers milk but the next best thing is either Biolac or a home made receipe I use but won't go into here because your puppy should be over 8 weeks and therefore there is no substitute for water.

some times worm tablets and flea treatments can upset tummies as well. Every time i used to worm Pepsi (as an adult dog) she would get an upset tummy, i discussed it with my vet and we changed brand and she is fine.

If the tummy upset keeps up take her to see the vet, but only if she gets dehydrated and the runs persists.

Pepsi loves to eat grass and trims our bamboo regularly, so i wouldn't worry too much about it, some dogs are like that!

Pepsi also loves milk and we give her small amounts of cows milk as a treat, just be careful, puppies can have delicate tummies, so maybe save the treats for when she is a bit older.

Thanks, I did read that and since Poppy is 8 weeks I thought perhaps she doesn't need the milk. I didnt give it to her on her food today. Just some warm water instead. Am also looking into the BARF food that Batty suggested!

Thats interesting. Maybe it was a combination of the worming tablet and flea meds. Or the milk. Who knows. I have stopped the milk now though. Won't buy that again! It was pedigree puppy milk, not cows milk. But when I read the ingredients it was basically milk with a enzyme to stop the lactose hurting their tummies.

Hey hang on a minute...you asked about the poop...I asked if she is on a balanced diet...why the puppy milk...legitimate question!!!

Some puppies get runny poop when given puppy milk!!!

IMO it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out I was giving her puppy milk as I thought it was NEEDED as part of a balanced diet. So all you needed to say was that puppy milk was NOT needed as part of a balanced diet!

Turn's out I'm feeding her the same stuff as Angela is feeding Batty so I am happy with it for the time being!

    Thanks anyway for your response.

Nope. The food has been the same all along. I have only had her for two days. The first day she was fine...poo wise...second day I added Puppy milk and wormed her and gave her a flea spot on so maybe its just a combo of everything.
