Way to go Batty!
Way to go Batty!
Congratulations on your graduation...well done Batty
I'm a bit late but way to go Batty. It's such a great feeling when everything goes well.
*now if only I could get Griffy to actually do anything when we go to training. The trainer takes one look at him and laughs *
I have to admit to having a big giggle when the vet nurse was trying to get Batty's attention.... He completely ignored her, wandered around, had a sniff of some of the bags of food, jumped at her - (she shouldn't have been making odd noises to him and I told her he would do jump!) - had a play with another puppy meanwhile she's getting more and more frustrated.
It was great when we went outdoors though, he's going to be an amazing obedience dog. He did (I haven't taught this, just one of those voluntary things) a perfect heel with FULL focus on me walking over to the area where we did the test, followed by a 1 minute sit and stay, a 2 minute drop and stay (he did have a bit of a look around though), a perfect 'watch' for 30 seconds, recall from a stay, then shook paws, rolled over and I asked him to speak and he did! It was awesome.
I'm amazed he did the stays for that long though, he's done up to 40 seconds at home with the sit stay and up to 1 and a half minutes in a down stay. On the recall he did run into my legs though, but once he'd used them to stop the forward momentum he promptly sat and watched me very intently.
Vet nurse was a bit disgusted with me sitting on the ground and making a HUGE fuss of him. She said I praised him too much but I didn't think so, it was an amazing achievement.
He's been an angel this morning, so hopefully yesterdays antics were just a phase for that day and he never goes into that mode again.... Yeah Right! Guess I can keep dreaming!
Oh I then had to explain after the lesson why he did it fine outdoors but couldn't in front of the other puppies - My response was to point out two things: First he's a 14 week old puppy and second I have no dogs around to do distraction training near at the moment. I was a bit frustrated with having to explain that!
belated congrats to you and Batty
The nurse sounds a little cranky :/ lol
congratulations.... that is amazing for 14 wks you must be a very dedicated owner and trainer!
Tonnes of little training sessions, plenty of praise and every session is made to be tonnes of fun. Seems to be working well, except yesterday when he decided to have a monster morning then angelic evening... Grrr LOL.
We just don't have the ability to practice under the distraction of other dogs at the moment which sucks!
Angela, if you lived in Sydney you could bring him here - PLENTY of dogs to distract him!
