I would recommend that you only wash a pet dog when it is either that filthy it's not funny, or when it stinks so much you can't bear the smell of it.

By the way, you also need to take into consideration that the Golden Retriever is reknown to possess a unique individual smell (IMO the smell would be best described as an oily cheesy scent) that permeates from it's coat, unlike most other breeds.
This is a smell that you really should try to get used to, as you will be living with it for the next 10-15 years.
Really? Well thank goodness Jenna must take after her Samoyed side in that department, So far she doesn't seem to smell much at all. I was concerned about having a long haired dog but so far so good

Cheesy hey.... LOL great!! I guess she just smells doggy, and never having had a dog before i just have to get used to it

She had her first bath today - in the laundry trough. She was a bit wriggly but not really upset by it or anything. Afterwards she smelled like a wet carpet LOL.

I had to give our cat a bath once (when he was caged with a pinned leg and got covered in his own poo), and bathing Sally was a doddle compared to trying to wash a poo-covered, distressed kitty!

Yeah, it's a common trait of the Golden Retriever breed, TKay. I'm glad Jenna doesn't...well...have that particular perfume.

Never. Ive won best in show with a dog that's never been bathed.
For those horrid, moments, where they have rolled in something delightful, i hose em down if i dont have time to walk to the river.
Ive been asked what do you bath them in? and the answer is: the river.
As yours is a golden retriever, swimming to clean him/her off should be a doddle, getting it out afterwards another matter lol
