    Default Mini Dachshund

We're getting a mini dashy in a couple of weeks. I haven't had a puppy in a long time, my dog is almost 14! I was a kid so my parents did most of the work, so I need info on what to feed, how many times. Anything and everything! Any info would be good. For my dog now I get him those meat rolls from the fridge section and mix in dry food. Altho I want to start cooking him meat, mixed with veggies and rice or pasta, can this be given to the puppy? He will come vaccinated and microchipped, do i still need to take him to the vet? He will be desexed so will go anyways. I just need as much info as possible. And i prefer to use natural stuff. Thanks!

    Hi Organicsab.

For a start, the breeder will usually supply you with a diet sheet explaining what the puppy has been eating up to now, when, how often etc. Some breeders will even give you samples of the food they have been feeding to get you started, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

remember that if you wish to change the puppy's diet to one of your own choice, do so gradually over a period of 10-14 days. A puppy going to a new home is enough to sometimes cause bowel upsets etc, so a sudden change of diet could be drastic.

Yes, you will need to take your puppy to the vet each year for it's annual vaccination. Make sure puppy has had ALL it's vaccinations. You may be required to have a further one at 12 weeks, but the breeder should notify you of this anyway. Puppy will need regular worming, but I'm sure you can take care of that yourself.

    Congrats on your new pup.

Your breeder is the best person to talk to. He/she knows their breed and especially their own puppies. A good breeder is always happy to offer help and advice for the lifetime of the pups they breed.

It sounds like you have found a good breeder. You can't beat help and advice from someone who knows and loves their breed.

Looking forward to hearing about you new pup in the future.
