If they are a cross, refer to them as that! Pug X Cavvie.
Umm Where did I say a Pugalier or any other cross was a "breed"

Dont trust me Megan - get in touch with Monash Vet Clinic - they do the best hipscores in Aus - IMO

    Monash Vet - Home

Most vets in Vic worth their salt will refuse to do hipscores as they have not been trained.

A couple of other places do do them in VIC and in NSW there is Karen Hedberg - but if you contact them they should be able to put you on to someone in your state

    You contradict yourself there. This
    Quote:
IMO the problem with crossbreeding is the fact that it is done too often and for the wrong reasons, ie negligence, money etc. I do not agree with this and have NEVER said I do.

    IS a moral judgement.
But I am not saying it is the crossbreeding itself that is immoral. I was saying those particular reasons to crossbreed are immoral

I have done a bit of research regarding this. The "purebreds" listed I doubt have papers and would have been bred by BYB's, but we will do this anyway...just for "entertainment"

At this point...there are 1,789 dogs on PetRescue's site.

I did't go through the whole thing, because the same picture painted itself on each page.

Out of 200 dogs...157 dogs were cross breeds...which equals 78.5% of the dogs listed. Out of the "purebreds"...there were:

    1 Labrador - female
    1 Jack Russell - female
    1 Pomeranian - male
    1 Tenterfield Terrier - female
    1 Border Collie - male
    1 Corgi - male
    1 Border Collie - female
    1 Border Collie - male
    1 German Coolie - male
1 Bull Arab Puppy - female
1 American Bull Dog - female
1 Bull Arab dog - female
1 Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy - male
    1 Irish Wolfhound - female
    1 Pomaranian - female
    1 Rottweiler - male
    1 Bichon Frise - female
    1 Labrador - female
    1 Maremma Sheepdog - male
    1 Jack Russell - male
    1 Golden Retriever - male
    1 Siberian Husky - female
    1 Shar Pei - female
    1 Cocler Spaniel - male
1 Staffordshire Bull Terrier - male
    1 Pomeranian - male
    1 Greyhound - female
    1 Rottweiler - male
    1 ****zhu - male
    1 Maltese - male
    1 ****zhu - female
1 Staffordshire Bull Terrier - female
1 Staffordshire Bull Terrier - male
    1 Greyhound - female
    1 Greyhound - female
    1 Greyhound - female
    1 Greyhound - female
    1 Boxer - male
    1 Border Collie - male
    1 Kelpie - female
    1 Red Heeler - male
    1 Standard Poodle - male
1 Black GSD - female - I think this one is iffy too regarding "pure"

There were a few on the list which stated they were "purebreds"...not in a million years! I have NOT counted those 3 dogs as pure...but as cross breeds!

When it comes to mixes...a fair bit of Staffy X there...but really there were all kinds of mixes.

Additionally, these faults do happen in x breds but there is no register, no way of telling which x is prone to what!
But what I was getting at is the more generations of crosses the less likely they would be "prone" to anything because of the wide genetic base. Just a theory I know, I'm not saying it's going to happen.

    Dog A X Dog B

Both dogs carry a recessive gene to - say - cleft palate. This is apparent in the litter. Both dogs are desexed.

    However, if...

    Dog A X Dog C

No one knows Dog A has the genetic condition - without genetic testing.

Genetic testing is the thing! And the only people who monitor it generation after generation are certain pure breed dog breeders

Thus x breeding is immoral as x breeders breed for profit

Clea - it's Shih not the other lol. Also - I would debate the validity of a coolie as a breed considering so many different dogs can be called coolies
