    Default Washing your puppy

    Hi guys,

I was wondering how often you guys wash your dogs?

Zulu is 11 weeks and I haven’t given him a wash yet.

Also, any recommendations to shampoos to use and ones to avoid?

    Cheers,
    Robbie

'robbiepapenfus' - there have been heaps of threads regarding washing pups on this forum !

Have you done a search ?

I only ever wash Riley when he stinks and then only use a very mild shampoo. Oatmeal is the latest one.

It is probably a good idea to wash your pup for him to get used to it - but not every week.

Make sure you wash out all the detergent - 'squeaky clean' like we do when washing our hair ! Also do it at a time of day that ensures he gets totally dry.

I never wash my dogs unless they roll in something disgusting which is rare.

Brock generally gets his bath at the beach running around doing his thing .. unless he rolls in something smelly - but he hates baths so it's only when necessary

I hose my dog off with fresh water after the beach because I don't like the way salt in her fur feels.

But otherwise - only if she gets stinky. The last time - I had to scrub the stuff (some sort of power steering fluid or something tractor mower mechanical), with omo enzyme powder to get it off. And rinse thoroughly.

She doesn't seem to mind being bathed even if the water is cold but she doesn't need it much. If it's just stinky and not sump oil - I use baby shampoo 2 in 1. that way it doesn't sting her eyes if I get some where it shouldn't be.

I hose off Maggie after the beach or if she rolls in something manky at the park. No regular washing habit

On the odd occasion when Brock gets a bath(well shower really) I use a bottle of exelpet anti flea shampoo that expired in 2007(bought it when Jack was 6 weeks old so that makes it about 9 years old now). Dunno if it does anything for fleas but it makes him smell nice ... for a few hours at least lol
