Thread: New puppy, feeding 4 times a day may not be possible!

Default New puppy, feeding 4 times a day may not be possible!

In the next week I'll be getting a Beagle puppy and I've been doing some research and most websites/forums seem to suggest that for an 8-10 week old puppy you should be feeding up to 4 times a day. For me this isn't likely to happen as I have work during the day. At best I was hoping to feed twice a day, morning and night, is that still fine for a puppy of this age?

    Cheers!

I got my puppy at 13 weeks old.
The guy I got her from was feeding her a hand full once a day.
When I got her, I fed her a hand full in the morning and a hand full at night.
Then as she grew(shes 8 months now) she started getting more - she now has 1/2 a cup of Black Hawk kibble in the morning and 150g of fresh raw at night.

Feeding them 2 or more times a day is better than just once but a lot of people just feed them once and they're fine, I've always fed my pup twice a day and she's healthy although she seems hungry all the time so I probably should feed her three times a day instead.

Just depends on your pup I highly recommend 2-3 times a day instead of once.

Yeah I was planning on doing morning and night as really that's all I'll be able to manage. Once a week I'll have a bone for her as well. I was just concerned as everywhere I've read is saying 4 and was under the impression it was some kind of magic number you needed to follow.

I fed my dog three times a day when I first got her at 10 weeks and then went to twice a day and then once (sort of - she still gets a brekky snack and training treats).

You could try mixing some of your puppy's food with yogurt or water and freezing it in kongs and leaving those with your puppy to munch on during the day. Or puzzle toys like a bob a lot or a squirrel dude - depending how strong your puppy's jaw is. Ie the first few times you let them try these kinds of toys, be around to supervise. Make sure the kong you choose is too big for your dog to try to swallow.

My pups have all got fed twice a day and never had any problems. You could as suggested leave some in a puzzle toy.

I still feed my 6 mth old 3 x a day but he was intitally fed four when we got him.
I am pretty sure you can feed twice though without an issue
