Thanks guys This will be my first puppy outside of my family home, im nervous and excited at the same time! I cant wait til he gets here and I can get to know him! I have some names in mind for him, but it will depend on what he is like as to what name I choose. Does anyone have any toys they could recommend for him? I've got three different puzzle toys, some balls and throw toys and one soft toy. I'm not really into squeaky toys but I do have one for him, but probably wont get any more lol

Congratulations on your new pup, I would suggest a large Kong as they are nearly Indestructible and you don't need to put anything inside as they will chew on them all day. Another great toy is a chew rope, dogs especially GSD pups love them and you can play tug o war with them. All the best with your new puppy.

What a cutie! Love the spots on his nose! Not long now until he arrives

So cute!! Congrats, it's so exciting isn't it!

I'm in the same boat as you - I got my first pup 3 weeks ago, she's the first dog I've owned since I was about 12. I'm a realist, so I have to let you know to prepare to lose a lot of sleep, be patient and consistent, ensure pup has everything he needs and do your research! This website is a fantastic resource and I have learned so much. You'll be amazed how much you can teach your pup yourself if you're willing to put the hard work in and understand how much to expect from him!

I love all of Victoria Stilwell's 'Teachers Pet' videos on youtube - she uses positive reinforcement and has really helped me to get my Taija where she is now, as quickly as I have.

It sounds like your on the right track with his toys. It's good to have enough for him to select from, but not too many as he may have trouble differentiating his toys from your belongings! I know my pup loves her soft toy (she can simulate the kill), her tug toy and a puppy KONG bone stuffed with peanut butter for chewing. Chunks of ice (flavoured with meat broth or natural) are probably the cheapest form of entertainment, especially on the hot days we've been having in Melbourne.

One bit of advice from me would be to crate train him. I chose not to do this and took the hard road instead...next time I will be crate training from day one.

Good luck and enjoy bonding with your new best mate!
