    Well done Beloz

single mum here, and it took me 15yrs to get on the property ladder, which happened by accident, when my rental was repossessed by the bank, and i bought it for half price! It was a 2 bed flat in a block in uk, but that was enough to stop me having to move my children every 2yrs, coz the lease was up. and a decent deposit when i sold up, gave up on trying to raise kids in uk and dragged them here. thank god!

It is the moving that makes me want to get off this rental merry go round. And the inspections. And the pets of course. Though I have been very lucky with my current rental because I have been here for 5 years now! And they don't mind the pets. Though when we move, I will foster a dog. And probably a couple more cats.

With renting, it's not being able to fix things that are broken like the insulation or lack of double glazing or even installing a decent heating/cooling system. And then there is the landlord who decides he can spend all his spare time at your place murdering the garden because his wife won't let him stay home... the house that is the same temp inside as outside on a 38'C day or a 10'C day. Yuck.

And that place was no pets.

It is really nice to own your own place. In Europe - they have 20 year leases - so its as if you own your own place and you can set it up how you like - but not here.

Yep, that bothers me too, Hya. I never even had anything decent hanging on my walls because god forbid that I would make a tiny hole to hang a frame. And of course the first thing I'll do when we move into our new place is to install a dog door. It'll be awesome!

I also have the landlords coming over almost every weekend to renovate the granny flat (which I was not allowed to use as it's "not an approved structure") so they can up the rent when they get a new tenant. Highly annoying and of no benefit to me.

Yes, it's much better to rent in Europe. First thing everyone does when they move into a place is paint the walls. We once painted half the dining and lounge room walls bright yellow and the other half burgundy when we moved into a group house. And you can bang nails into the walls to your heart's content, no one cares. That may mean that you have to fix up the previous tenant's handy work because the houses are rented 'as is' but it's a small price to pay for being able to make the house feel like yours. No inspections either. I have never truly felt at home in a rental in Oz. It's like staying in a hotel, but without the room maid.

I hope you are in your own place soon...Size does not matter, but peace of mind does

I told my Hubby, that I don't ever want to move....I hated it when we were renting, always the worry of possibly having to move

    Good luck.........
