Default Video making help PLEASE !

    Gday all,

Can anyone recommend a easy program i could use to edit my home movies ?
I have a heap of neat footage that i would like to put together to make one good video of our adventures and then put em on you tube and share with others like here on the forum.
I also need to cut out a HEAP of swearing !! I'm disgusted in myself ....never realised i swear so much and not just the usual F's and S's. Wife wasnt surprised but i was...ned to bite my tounge a bit lol.
It needs to be fairly basic as i'm a total noob at this stuff and my puter skills suck to say the least. The wifey will help...she's clued up with computers but she's never done this type of thing either.
    Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks inadvance.

Hi Sean, I was at JB HiFi last week and saw a few video/photoediting software packs on a rack.
(I was there to buy some vids for the dog to watch - got "cats & dogs" and "bingo" only problem
gets too excited by the cats on screen keeps jumping up to look for them behind the TV)

Maybe google JB online catalogue or ahem Gerry Harvey, I've heard he needs the money.

    Hi Sean
I use a great programme I got online called CyberLink PowerDirector 9, though I think they have now upgraded to 10. It cost about $110, you won't find it in a shop. I did a lot of research comparing different video editing software programmes and this beat other much more expensive ones. I use it heaps for work (part of my job is to edit videos and put them on YouTube.....) and a lot of the footage I work with is from the professional fishing industry - so lots of swearing to remove. It's really easy to cut stuff out and then add in "transitions" so the footage fades into the next part (where you've cut) or any other effect you want. You can play around with the sound, so you can just lower the sound right down just at the swearing then lift it back up again. You can keep or remove the original sound plus put another music track over the top etc. The software will upload the finished video straight to YouTube or Facebook. It's pretty time consuming stuff though, I could whittle away my whole day on video editing.....

Thanks Troppo, I'll suss that out for sure.
Your job sounds pretty cool. I'm a mad keen fisho and know a few pro's. Can i ask what sort of footage you get off them and what it's about. The fellas i know are mostly prawn trawler skippers and deckies. I bet there is a heap of bad language coming from the boys !! Thanks again for the tips.

I use Corel VideoStudio Pro i find it is easy for simple editing. This is a little something i tacked together a while ago. Let me know if it doesn't work. There are tons of effects, transistions, and editing features & you can insert bleeps as well i beleive.

If you want basic Windows Movie maker will do the trick. You can chop the movie and splice it back together, add a soundtrack and titles etc.
That's all I use for editing my dog vids and AMV's.

Footage is all sorts of stuff, some of it given to me by fishos, some I've taken myself - Ocsar the Wonder Dog appears in a couple of harbour clean-up ones. They are designed to show some of the positives of the fishing industry here in the NT, so getting rid of the swearing, editing out the guys with a ciggy hanging out of their mouth etc. is pretty important!

As Crested said though, Movie Maker might be good enough for what you want, I haven't seen it but I think that's what a lot of people use for YouTube. Yeah, it's pretty hard having to check out YouTube at work......
